Overlap homeowners?

I have a client that is considering a carrier switch to save a little money (less than $200) but also gain some coverage. It's a home that's over 100 years old and when they first came to me 3 years ago (when they bought the home) it needed some repairs after inspection from her current carrier (Nationwide). They were completed and we've had no issues since then. This thought has never crossed my mind until this scenario; has anyone left a current policy overlapping with a new one during a carrier switch?

You can technically and the risk is fairly low BUT if a loss actually happens there's going to be a massive delay while the companies point the fingers at each other on which one will be covering it. If you issued a policy saying it had updates that it...

Yes I have done it. And let the insured know it is possible to back date the cancelation. But they may not.
