Question about solar panels. Do some companies cover them under dwelling A. Also do they have to list them on there policy. I was told from my client there company has them covered. But when I look at the policy there is no mention of solar panels. Edited these clients own the solar panels. Sorry I should have put this in here and they have 18 panels on one roof

From my understanding if they are owned or leased makes a huge difference, carrier dependent

They are factored in to the replacement value of the dwelling and can increase the value a lot! I have one right now that took dwelling value from 650k to 900k. Also, not all carriers will write a home with them so best to check your providers on what to do.

Also not all carriers will pay for the removal and reinstall when the roof has to be replaced. Some carriers are offering that as additional coverage for a cost. It can cost 10-15k for the removal and reinstalling. Also some carriers do not cover solar panels at all period. Check your guidelines.

Not all companies want to insure homes with solar panels, particularly panels that sell electricity to the utility company

We add them under details for the home. It's per panel coverage. Farmers

If they are attached to the home yes, you need to add them to the Rcv report

Agent Reply

If they are leased the insured is not responsible- if they are owned the insured needs to insure and they are factored in dwelling RC

Yes, covered under A as part of the structure and no does not have to be notated

Carrier specific. We have some on Cov A, some elsewhere
