Comment View more answers Paul Fulmer Top contributor reasonable towing costs are typically considered part of the loss. “But for” the accident, your insured wouldn’t have incurred that expense. I’d recommend resubmitting the tow bill and asking for a supervisor review if it’s already been denied. If they still refuse, ask them to provide the basis for denial in writing. The only thing I’d double-check is whether your insured signed a property damage release or if the towing was already included in the total loss settlement. If neither of those apply, I would continue to press the issue.

View all 3 replies Answer as Justin Jen Frazier posted to Insurance Soup™ Top contributor Ohio - I have a new referral that I cannot write. It is for a secondary home located in Maumee, Ohio. Primary home(s) are in Nevada and California. Declinations from National General, Hanover, The Hartford, Pekin, Foremost, and American Modern due to a combination of not writing the primary home and/or the value of the home is greater than our binding authority. The home is currently insured with Chubb, but the homeowner would like the home quoted at a functional replacement cost value. Anyone able to write a secondary home valued around $1.3 - $1.8 million?

The cottage and boat she owned are now titled in the name of a trust. I no longer have a market for this risk. Would anyone like the referral that can write this?

Comment View more answers Elizabeth Russell Moran Rising contributor It may be better write it as farm. Sometimes I’ve noticed farm policies can be cheaper on insurance. Just make sure all outbuildings are pristine. If one is bad they will decline.

Answer as Justin Jen Frazier posted to Insurance Soup™ Top contributor Question for State Farm - Ohio Our commercial auto client was in an accident with a State Farm client on 12/02/25. State Farm client was at fault party. State Farm deemed my insured's vehicle a total loss. Insured paid $442.00 at time of loss to have vehicle towed. Now State Farm is stating they will not pay his towing bill. True or False? Do I have my insured submit the tow bill again to a supervisor or do they normally not pay for the tow? I'd like to instruct my client correctly. Appreciate your help Soup. Thank you.
