View 1 reply Answer as Justin Kiersten Medina posted to Insurance Soup™ All-star contributor I’m trying to figure out to best use my insurance license right now. When life happens I swear it happens ALL at once! I’m going to be super vulnerable right now but I think I have so much going on I’m hoping maybe someone can give me ideas I haven’t thought of yet. This is going to be long so bear with me here! I worked for the same insurance agency for 7.5 years it was Farmers and while I disliked Farmers the agent I worked for was extremely flexible and allowed me to take my lunch to pick up my kids from school my kids currently 14, 9, 3 and 19 months were sometimes under toe and it was okay. I worked remote and gosh I am SOOOO thankful for this! Well last year in November my 3 year old was diagnosed with autism (it wasn’t a shock I already knew prior to insurance I worked with kiddos on the spectrum) for those that don’t know this required assessments for each therapy he needed sometimes multiple. He needed an assessment for OT, speech, several for ABA he had 1-2 or more appointments scheduled per week plus IEP assessments to set up preschool. I decided the best course was to take FMLA for 2 month so I could get all his assessments done. I got them all done and was ready to go back however my son had OT twice per week, speech once per week, and ABA which currently is requiring me to go change his diaper every two hours because he has such a fear and aversion they are easing him in at his pace to get to the point where staff can change him and then eventually potty train. Well that left not much room for work! I let my employer know I could come back at 15-20 hours a week, though I knew they needed someone full time as I was the account manager and I handled literally everything. They were unable to work with that and we parted ways. I have zero hard feelings! Well to top it off my husband was just diagnosed with cancer! Seriously when it rains it pours! And will need to go to appointments too. I have zero family support so it’s just me! Here is where I need a little guidance, I need to bring in income as my savings is slowly dwindling! And while my husband swears he wants to keep working I have zero clue how long that will be possible during his treatments as he works in HVAC. I have looked into working for life insurance companies that offer 1099 but a lot of them seem to be a little eh MLM like. I don’t want that! And really I don’t have a ton of experience with life either my experience was with P&C and commercial lines any time someone needed life to referred to someone else in the office. What options are there out there where I can sell on my schedule with kids under toe, when I can fit it in with my insane schedule? Am I insane thinking there are any options in insurance for me to even make something like this work? Do I just need to sell feet pics instead seriously I’m joking there! I want my kids to know their mom busted her ass legitimately but I have to make jokes because I might just fall apart if I don’t! Although I mean I’m getting desperate so if you know how to get into that idk maybe my only option signed a very lost insurance agent All reactions:
Comment View more answers Crystal Carson I would find a local independent agent who will allow you to use his appointments and work as a 1099 agent who will find your own leads and sell. While his office maintains and owns the book. They’re out there. Keep looking.
