Enlighten me! My agency writes non profits, event coverage, lessors risk, farmer's markets, antique stores, contractors etc. I always discuss pulling COIs for vendors, renters, and subs with my clients. For example, if you are organizing an event with bounce house rentals-we would make sure that company has GL for their operations and coverage for their property. I thought a non profit gl policy wouldn't extend GL for vendors and amusement rides. I also was under the impression that vendors should carry their own coverage to participate in most events. I am getting so much push back and losing prospects. Are there event policies that cover all vendors including food trucks and amusement rides not owned by the organizer? Lets say you're organizing a parade...would you verify that float participants have car insurance? Or include language in the agreement? What am I missing? In MO. Ty so much!!

You have the read your forms for the policies. My nonprofits send me a questionnaire about their event along with contractual wording. Most of my nonprofits are with Philadelphia and their form allows for vendors to be listed as AI if the event fits their special events endorsements & it's required by a written contract. Mechanical rides would make the event ineligible & it would move to a special event policy where you can cover the vendors but a premium charge applies. Food trucks could need auto if tagged for the road so the Gl would not apply. I don't do a ton of hab but I do have one single family LRO risk where the tenant is required to carry their own insurance. My apartment risks do not. Parades I only cover loading/unloading because there is no auto coverage on the Gl.

I would say 'how do you know it covered it if you've never had a claim?' Most cgl policies will have an exclusion for amusement rides....i think k&k has limited coverage contingent on if coi is obtained. I also tell my clients 'if a claim happens and the vendor is responsible, do you want that going on YOUR insurance? The vendors are more likely to provide the insurance info PRIOR to an incident then after a claim occurs.' All you can do is educate and request coi, and document it. It's on them if they want to open themselves up to the implications of not obtaining coi.

I'd ask if they disclosed things prior to the events. I have a handful of 501(c)(3) policies and they are instructed to contact us for COIs and we need signed contracts by both parties with insurance requirements to add AI in CA.
